Fingerprints are the most beautiful natural characteristics on the human skin. Their peculiar conformation makes them unique, immutable and permanent and thus, suitable for people identification.
For more than 100 years, fingerprints have been used only for criminal investigation to identify murders with the latent prints left in a crime scene. However, the increase of the terror threats together with the increase of the flow of people traveling around the world leads the attention of Governments to new means to increase citizen security. Thus, fingerprint recognition and, more in general, biometrics started to receive more consideration and financial investments.
Since the year 2000, I am working in biometrics as hardware and software engineer, algorithm designer and scientist. It is a very amazing research field, due to its young life (it is really a young science) and the increase of demand for new solutions and applications. Providing new technologies and new solutions to this field is a real grand challenge.
This website is online since January 2003. It changed a lot from its birth, but it always continues to talk about fingerprints.
Here, you will find news, discussions, useful links and other information related to fingerprint recognition and biometrics. I recently added a new section on Cocoa and Objective-C. Please, take part to the discussions about biometrics, fingerprint, algorithms, applications and so on.
